Dear Parents and Students,
We have been busy with MAP tests this week, with three of our four tests already completed. We have also been engaged in the classroom, and have enjoyed yet another engaging and stimulating week.
In the Classroom:
Maths
We began Topic 18 this week, which is focused on equations and inequalities. Although this is a short topic, it is a very important one, as it sets the foundations for the next stage of algebraic problem solving to be studied in the near future. The test for this topic will take place on Monday.
Literacy Workshop
We have completed our grammar unit dedicated to pronouns, and we are currently reviewing the unit. Next week, we will begin our final grammar unit of the year, which is focused on adverbs and prepositions. We have also been enjoying reading Danny the Champion of the World. This story has prompted some very interesting discussions about different moral dilemmas, and how a person’s character can have such a great effect on how one is treated and respected by others.
Science
Our adaptation study continued this week with a look at how different tree species survive in their respective environments. By studying diagrams of root systems, and building models of branch types, we observed how the structures of different species of trees have adapted to perform specific functions. We then used our acquired knowledge to identify which species of tree are most suited to a specific environment described in our notes.
Social Studies
We continued with our research and development of our Regions presentations, and the level of commitment promises some very impressive displays. We have only a few more days left before our presentations, which will take place next Friday.
Other important information
MAP testing will continue next week. Grade 4 has only one test left to complete, as listed below, along with other upcoming important dates.
