Dear Parents and Students,
We have had another eventful week, with Grades 1, 3, and 5 impressing us all with very entertaining and informative presentations for the International Expo. We all had a taste of different cultures and regions, starting in Zimbabwe, and then moving to Australia, France, and Costa Rica, before finishing up in Greece. A big thank you goes out to all of the students, teachers, and staff for all of the hard work that was put into creating such an enjoyable morning. It was also great to see so many parents visiting. For those of you who couldn’t make it to the Expo, photos can be found via the link at the bottom of this post.
In the Classroom:
Maths
We completed Topic 16 on Wednesday, and had our topic test on Friday, which covered units of measurement, weight, capacity, time, and temperature. Next week, we will begin Topic 17, starting with a study of surveys.
Literacy Workshop
We spent the early part of our week publishing and sharing our latest assignment: Writing an Opinion. Next week, we will begin our next writing assignment: Writing to Persuade.
Science
All of our attention was devoted to our Science Fair projects this week, and the quality of work is testament to all of the hard work everyone has put in over the past two months. Thank you to all parents for your constant support, and congratulations to all students for a memorable Science Fair. A link to photos of the fair can be found via the link at the bottom of this post.
Social Studies
We have completed our study of the American Midwest, and we spent most of this week reviewing what we have learned and preparing for our team test. The test was to take place on Friday, but due to so many absences this week, it has been postponed until Monday. Also next week, we will begin preparing for our next Social Studies assignment. Each group will focus on a specific region and topic. We will then spend time researching our topic and preparing our presentations, which will be presented in a few weeks’ time.
