Week 27

 Dear Parents and Students,

The warmer weather has certainly been welcome, especially on Wednesday, when we enjoyed the activities of Race Day. Thank you to Mr Liu for all of his work in providing a fun-filled afternoon for the whole school. Pictures from the afternoon can be found via the link at the end of this post.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have completed Topic 15, and our test took place on Friday. Next week, we will begin Topic 16, which is dedicated to measurements, time, and temperature. We will start with customary units of length, and then continue with weight and capacity, before comparing it all to the metric system.

Literacy Workshop

We have continued with Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and the discussions from our Reading Circles continue to inspire. We have a very busy week next week, as we will finish the story, and celebrate on Friday with a Mad Tea Party. We will also work towards a creative representation of our favourite part of the tale. This may come in the form of a drawing or painting, a model, a poem or song, a game, or any other creative form.

Science

We moved away from the books in Science this week, and enjoyed a practical assignment in which we built a model of a human finger. Using the model, we were able to investigate how muscles, tendons, and bones combine to give us form and movement. Next week, we will create another model of a human body part as we investigate how our eyes work.

Social Studies

Our studies of the American Midwest continue, and we have been further developing our expository reading, note-taking, and summarizing skills. We have been learning about the early history of the Great Plains region, and we spent some time comparing historical maps dating back as early as 1803. Our study of the Midwest will continue next week.
