Dear Parents and Students,
It was a short but busy week, punctuated with our Pottery session on Wednesday. Everyone enjoyed releasing our creative sides, and there were some very impressive works of art produced. Photos of the afternoon can be found via the link at the bottom of this post.
In the Classroom:
Maths
We have completed Topic 14, and our test took place on Tuesday. We have already begun Topic 15, and we have spent the last few lessons studying solid figures, including cutting out our own geometric nets and building three-dimensional shapes. This is a short topic, and the test will take place next Friday.
Literacy Workshop
We have all but completed our Instructions writing assignment, and we are looking forward to watching one-another’s presentations on Tuesday. On Monday, we began reading Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and we are already four chapters in. Some of the discussions arising from our Reading Circles are quite fascinating, as everybody has their own interpretation of the story, and we are enjoying sharing one-another’s perspectives, inferences, and insights. We will continue reading the story throughout next week.
Science
We have all but completed our unit dedicated to Physical Science, and we will review the unit on Monday. On Wednesday we will begin our final Science unit for the year: Life Science. We will begin this unit by building a model of a finger to help understand how bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons work together to help us move.
Social Studies
We have begun studying America’s Midwest, beginning with its geography, and with a focus on summarizing expository text. We are developing our skills in efficient skimming, scanning, and summarizing information in books and online, as we learn about the climate, resources, and physical features of the Great Lakes States and the Plains States of the USA. Next week, we will continue to practise our skills as we study the early history of the region.
