Week 25

 Dear Parents and Students,

While it was disappointing that the weather didn't permit us to enjoy our Race Day activities on Wednesday, spirits have remained high in Grade 4, and we can look forward to Race Day taking place on the new date of Wednesday, 18th March.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have been working our way through Topic 14, and learning some very useful formulas. We have also discussed the importance of understanding the formulas we learn, and not simply memorising them. We will complete our studies of area and perimeter next week, with our topic test to take place on Tuesday.

Literacy Workshop

We have begun planning and drafting our next writing assignment - Writing Instructions. Next week, we will be revising, proofreading, and publishing our work. To present our instructions, students can choose to present live in the classroom or to create a slideshow or short video, which will be shared online and presented before the class. Directions for creating the video have been sent home, along with rubrics for both the writing and presentation assignments. Written instructions are due Tuesday, 17th March, and the presentations will also take place that day.

Science

We completed our final practical investigation of sound energy this week, and enjoyed another practical task in which we created visual models of soundwaves. We also continued with our weekly Science Fair conferences to make sure that everyone is up to date and on schedule.

Social Studies

We finished reviewing what we have learned about the American Southeast, and our online open-book test took place on Thursday. We have already begun our next unit, in which we are exploring the American Midwest, starting with a focus on the region’s geography.

Other important information

As previously mentioned, our Race Day activities have been postponed to Wednesday, 18th March. Next Wednesday, we will enjoy our pottery session. Students  are encouraged to bring a protective apron, smock, or similar clothing to keep clothes clean while working with clay.
