Dear Parents and Students,
I hope you all had a restful break and are feeling refreshed. It’s good to see everybody
back after the Lunar New Year break. Grade 4 is already buzzing with activity again, and we have had a busy week, as usual.
In the Classroom:
Maths
We have completed Topic 13, and had our topic test on Tuesday. We have already begun Topic 14, which is a change of pace, as it is dedicated to the study of perimeter and area. We will continue with Topic 14 next week.
Literacy Workshop
Our featured story this week was Sing to the Stars. This is a story about a boy and his special relationship with music. While reading, we focused on making inferences and analyzing the author’s writing style. We also spent time developing our writing skills through a series of activities in which we organised information to produce paragraphs each with a clear topic sentence and supporting details. Next week, we will utilise these skills as we begin our next writing assignment.
Science
This week, we continued with our investigation of sound energy, and how sound vibrations can lead to a variety of effects. We observed water rippling on a speaker dish, salt forming patterns on a metal plate, and flames coming out of a Ruben’s Tube. Through practical investigation using balloons, we then experimented with our own different sounds to observe their physical effects.
Social Studies
We completed our study of the Southeast States this week, and we have begun reviewing the chapter in preparation for next week’s unit review. Our open-book test is scheduled for Thursday.
