Week 23

 Dear Parents and Students,

This week has been full of activity, highlighted by our Chinese Week celebrations. A special thank-you to Ms. Tsai and Ms. Lin for their efforts in creating engaging activities that highlight Chinese culture. These activities have also been woven into our classroom lessons. You can view photos from the week’s events through the link at the end of this post.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have continued with Topic 13, and we have been learning how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals with whole numbers. We will review the topic after the break, with the test to take place on the Tuesday after we return to school.

Literacy Workshop

To follow the theme of Chinese Week, we read The Last Dragon in class. This is a story about an American boy who spends time with his Chinese aunt to learn about his heritage. We have had some interesting and insightful discussions in our Reading Circles, and our skills in drawing inferences are developing further each week.

Science

We continued our study of thermal energy this week, focusing on the different ways in which heat can travel and move. We also spent some time discussing what needs to be done in preparation of our Science Fair projects.

Social Studies

We spent some time this week learning what the Southeast is like today, with our attention first focused on the Atlantic States, before then learning about the Gulf Coast States. We will spend a little more time on this chapter after the break, before reviewing the entire unit.

Other important information

I hope everyone enjoys a relaxing and invigorating vacation, and I wish you all safe travels if you are going away. I will see you all back at school on Monday, 23rd February.

新年快樂!
