Dear Parents and Students,
We’ve had another very busy week in Grade 4, finishing a number of units from the core subjects. We also began our Chinese Week celebrations on Friday.
In the Classroom:
Maths
Along with the Topic 12 test, we completed our Benchmark and Cumulative tests this week, covering everything we have learned this year to date. On Tuesday, we began Topic 13, which continues our study of decimals, including addition, subtraction, and multiplication of decimals and whole numbers.
Literacy Workshop
We spent most of the week working on our Tall Tales, and we enjoyed sharing our stories on Friday. We spent some time reviewing all we have learned to date in our English lessons, and we also completed our adjectives assignment that was connected to the Valentine’s Day celebration. Next week, we will read The Last Dragon, a story that aligns with our Chinese Week theme.
Science
This week, we explored thermal energy through hands-on activities. We built spinners to observe how hot air rises, and then applied this concept to real-world innovations such as steam engines and internal combustion engines. We have also spent some time preparing for the upcoming Science Fair. We have already formed our project partnerships, and are now conducting preliminary research to develop our testable questions.
Social Studies
We have completed our studies of Ports of the Southeast, and we reviewed the chapter earlier this week. We are now learning what the Southeast is like today, with our attention this week focused on the Atlantic States. We will switch to the Gulf Coast States next week.
Other important information
Our Chinese Week began this Friday, and will continue throughout next week. Ms Tsai and Ms Lin have prepared a number of activities to make it a fun-filled and educational week. Please remember to wear red on Wednesday, and to bring chopsticks for our Chinese themed lunch on Thursday.
