Week 20

 Dear Parents and Students,

Despite the colder weather, our Literacy Week activities have made it a memorable one! We read all about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and we enjoyed participating in our special dress-up day, exploring new books at the Caves book sale, and watching a presentation by the creators of the 13 Storey Treehouse series. We then turned to presenting our own Book Promotion projects, which showcased all of our preparation and hard work over the past number of weeks.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We completed Topic 11, which taught us how to add and subtract fractions, and our test took place on Friday. Next week, we will begin Topic 12, which focuses on decimals, including how to convert fractions to decimals and vice versa.

Literacy Workshop

We began the week with an introduction to King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, and continued enjoying these legendary tales throughout the week. Much of our week was dedicated to our Book Promotion project, with our presentations taking place on Thursday. Next week, we will return to our Reading Circles with a new story, Heat Wave!

Science

We have continued with our exploration of electricity, and we can now build electric circuits in series and parallel, complete with switches. We will continue with circuits next week, and we will also begin primary discussions about the Science Fair, which will be taking place in April this year.

Social Studies

Early in the week, we explored the geography and climate of the American Southeast. We also began learning about the region’s early inhabitants. As part of our Literacy Week activities, we read about Anyokah, a young Native American girl who, alongside her father, Sequoyah, helped create a written alphabet for the Cherokee language.
