Dear Parents and Students,
The weather has been a little milder this week, but Grade 4 has been busy as usual.
In the Classroom:
Maths
We have completed Topic 10, which has shown us how to find equivalent fractions and fractions in simplest forms, and how to convert improper fractions into mixed numbers and back again. We held our Topic Test on Thursday, and we will begin our next topic, also dedicated to fractions, on Monday. This will be a shorter topic, with the topic test to take place next Friday.
Literacy Workshop
This week, we continued our exploration of adjectives, including comparatives and superlatives. Much of our focus has been on our Book Promotion project, as we prepare for our presentations next Thursday. See below for other highlights of the upcoming Literacy Week.
Science
Our study of electricity, light, and heat continued with an exciting hands-on project in which all students designed a flashlight using only a battery, LED, aluminium foil, and paper. This experiment deepened our understanding of how electricity moves through circuits and the role of conductors. Next week, we will build upon this knowledge with further exploration of electrical circuits.
Social Studies
We reviewed what we have studied of the American Northeast, and sat an open-book test on Wednesday. We have already shifted our attention to the Southeast, and previewed what we will study over the next few weeks. We will continue next week, as we compare the two regions, along with similar and contrasting areas around the world.

Next week will be full of activities, including the CAVES book sale on Wednesday, and Dress-up Day on Thursday. Dates are listed below. The week promises to be a lot of fun. In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy the weekend, and I’ll see you all on Monday!
