Week 18

r Parents and Students,

I’m very pleased to welcome everybody back to begin 2026. I hope you have all enjoyed your break and are feeling refreshed. The weather has been a little chilly to start the year, but we have wasted no time in getting back into the swing of things, and we have already accomplished plenty.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We began Topic 10 on Monday. This topic reviews what we know about fractions, before introducing some new concepts to Grade 4, such as equivalent fractions and expressing fractions in simplest form. We will continue our study of fractions next week, with the topic test to take place next Thursday.

Literacy Workshop

We have continued our study of adjectives this week, with a focus on comparatives and superlatives. We also began working on our Book Promotion assignment in preparation for the upcoming Literacy Week. We will work on this assignment throughout next week, and our presentations will take place on Thursday of the following week.

Science

This week, we began our study of electricity, light, and heat by exploring how a city’s electricity is derived from natural resources such as coal, sunlight, wind, and water. We examined the environmental impacts of these energy sources and applied what we learned to design an electricity plan for a fictional town, considering its unique environment and resources.

Social Studies

We have almost completed our study of the American Northeast, and we have begun  reviewing what we have learned. We will continue our review on Monday, then sit an open-book test on Tuesday.

Other important information

Thank you to everyone for returning your club request forms. Club groups will be confirmed next week, and the clubs will take place beginning on Monday, 2nd February. I hope you all enjoy the weekend, and I’ll see you all on Monday!
