Dear Parents and Students,
It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached December, and 2025 is in its final month. With our Christmas/Winter performance just around the corner, we are all anticipating the
upcoming winter break. This hasn’t hindered our productivity though, and we have completed yet another busy week.
In the Classroom:
Maths
We began Topic 9 this week. This unit is dedicated to geometry, and we are investigating the names and properties of angles and polygons, including the various types of triangles. We are also learning how to measure and create angles using a protractor. We will complete the topic on Monday, and our topic test will take place on Wednesday.
Literacy Workshop
We spent most of the week revising, proofreading, and publishing our alternative fairytales. This proved to be a very popular assignment, with many students publishing their best work to date. We have also begun a new grammar unit dedicated to adjectives, which will continue throughout next week.
Science
In our study of energy this week, we learned that, if set up correctly, we could knock down a block as tall as a building using just dominoes! By gradually increasing the size of each domino, we can use height energy to keep a chain reaction going. We began building our own chain reaction machines on Wednesday, and we will add to our designs next week.
Social Studies
We have reviewed what we have learned about early times in the American Northeast, and held an open-book test on Thursday. Next week, we will be turning our attention to how the region looks and operates today, and how it compares with other parts of the world.
Other important information
As you know, our Christmas performance will take place Wednesday night. Students should arrive at 6:30 and go to the Grade 4 classroom to prepare. Our December assembly will take place the following day, and parents are welcome to attend.
Next Friday, we will have a break-up party in the classroom to celebrate the end of the year and winter vacation. Students are welcome to bring snacks to share, although this is not an obligation. If you are able, bring a cup or mug, as we will be serving hot chocolate. Lunch will be served a little earlier on Friday, and all children will be dismissed at 12:30. Please see the bus/taxi/pick-up schedule at the end of this post.
I hope you all enjoy the weekend, and I’ll see you all on Monday!
