Week 14

 Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you to all of the parents who braved the cold to join us for Fun Day. Although the weather was a little cooler this week, it was a successful afternoon, with all students enjoying the activities. Thank you to Mr Liu and the Grade 6 students for organising such a fun-filled afternoon.

In the Classroom:

Maths

The week has been dedicated to division. We have used diagrams and expanded algorithms to find the quotients of single, double, and triple digit dividends. We will review the topic next week, with the test to take place on Thursday.

Literacy Workshop

This week, we read Cendrillon, an alternative version of Cinderella. Our Reading Circles led to several thoughtful discussions, and we even learned a little French! Next week, we will continue the fantasy theme as we begin drafting our own alternative fairy tales.

Science

We continued our study of energy, motion, and inertia this week by building model roller

coasters and observing how energy can be stored as height. We will extend this project

next week by adding more ways to convert energy along the paths of our models.

Social Studies

We have completed our study of the geography of the American Northeast and the early populations of the region. Next week, we will explore how the area has changed from European settlement through to the present day, and how the Industrial Revolution affected life in the region.

Other important information

We have plenty to look forward to next week. Our field trip will take place on Tuesday. As outlined in the original letter home, please ensure students are dressed appropriately for the weather, as part of the museum is outdoors. On Thursday, we will celebrate Thanksgiving with a special lunch for all students. In the afternoon, all parents are invited to join us as the Drama Club performs highlights from the stage musical Peter Pan. Finally, parents are once again invited to join us for the November assembly on Friday.

Parents, I look forward to seeing you then; and students, I will see you all on Monday!
