Week 13

 Dear Parents and Students,

I would first like to thank all parents for making the time to come in for our Parent/Teacher Interviews. Open communication is an integral part of every child’s development. The parent/teacher meetings are always insightful, and most often lead to further improvements in your children’s academic opportunities and general wellbeing.

In the Classroom:

Maths

Our Topic 7 test took place on Tuesday, before we began our next topic, which is dedicated to division. This is a longer topic, and the test won’t take place until November 26th, just under two weeks from now. We have already begun working on long division, and we will continue with more division strategies next week.

Literacy Workshop

We read and discussed Chris Van Allsburg’s The Stranger. The story instigated some very interesting discussions in our Reading Circles, and we found that a single story can be interpreted in many ways. Next week, we will read Cendrillon, which is a story that might seem quite familiar to us all.

Science

We began our next unit, dedicated to Physical Science. We started our explorations by observing a complex chain-reaction machine, and identifying where the energy might be stored, transferred, and released. We then demonstrated other ways of storing, transferring, and releasing energy by building models of a carnival ride. We will continue our study of energy next week.

Social Studies

We began our study on the geography of the Northeast USA, including the design of a map of the region. Next week, we will continue with the region’s geography, then we will shift our focus to investigating the Early Peoples of the Northeast.
