Week 12

 Dear Parents and Students,

While the weather threatened to quite literally rain on our parade this week, we were lucky enough to enjoy the SD Halloween Carnival on Tuesday in almost-dry conditions, and then of course we enjoyed finer weather for our own parade and performances on Friday. Thank you to all parents for your time and effort in helping your children with costumes, and also to those of you who were able to join us on the day. It is always a thrill for the children to share their experiences with family. Thanks also to Ms Lu, for all of your hard work with each class’s performance!

In the Classroom:

Maths

We completed Topic 7 this week, which was dedicated to multiplication, including expanded algorithms, multiplying by tens, and multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers. We will review the topic on Monday, with the test to take place on Tuesday. We will then shift our focus to division when we begin Topic 8.

Literacy Workshop

This week, in our Reading Circles, we read and discussed A Very Important Day. We are

midway through our grammar unit dedicated to verbs, and we will continue with the unit

next week. We will also begin a new theme in our Reading Circles next week, starting with

Chris Van Allsburg’s The Stranger.

Science

We completed our Earth Science unit this week, with our unit test taking place on Friday.

Next week, we will begin our Physical Science unit, starting with an investigation into

speed and energy.

Social Studies

We spent the week in Social Studies learning about the different kinds of regions in which a country or nation can be divided. Next week, we will be focusing on the Northeast region of the United States.

Other important information

Thank you to all parents for returning the parent/teacher forms. Confirmation slips have all been sent home. Please let me know as soon as possible if you didn’t receive yours, or if the time slot no longer suits you. I look forward to meeting you all next week. Until then, I hope you all enjoy the long weekend, and students, I will see you all on Monday!
