Week 10

Dear Parents and Students,

The wet and windy weather has certainly been a change of pace outdoors, but it hasn’t affected the level of productivity in Grade 4. We have had a busy four-day week, including our final MAP test, which took place on Wednesday.

In the Classroom:

Maths

We have finished Topic 5, which was all about multiplication, including strategies such as breaking apart and compatible numbers. We had our topic test on Thursday, and we have already begun Topic 6. This is a short but important unit dedicated to algebra, with the topic test to take place Wednesday.

Literacy Workshop

We had our usual spelling test this week, and we have also been studying verbs in our grammar lessons. Most of our attention, though, has been dedicated to planning and drafting our Personal Narratives. We will publish our stories next week, and we will then present our work at our publishing party on Friday.

Science

We have continued our studies of Earth’s surface changes, this week focusing on landslides. Next week, we will test ourselves on what we have learnt about rocks and land formations with another hands-on activity.

Social Studies

We spent most of our week in Social Studies learning about economics. Using the USA as a model, we have been investigating the various industries that make up a nation’s economy, and how it may be affected by elements such as supply and demand. Next week will be spent reviewing Chapter 2, and we will have an open-book test on Thursday.

Other important information

As you know, the Halloween Carnival organised by the secondary department has been postponed until next Tuesday, 28th October. Parents are once again welcome to attend. The event ends at 3.40pm. Rollerblading Club will be suspended on this day.

Our October assembly will be held on Thursday afternoon next week, because on Friday, we have our own Halloween fun in the Elementary Department, with our costume parade and performances. Parents are encouraged to attend both events, and I look forward to seeing many of you there.

I hope you enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see you all on Monday!
